Cove-based UCI startup Syntr Health Technologies is making strides amidst the 2017 competition and pitch season. The UCI-based team has advanced to the Tech Coast Angels Fast Pitch Finals taking place on March 8th. Out of the numerous startups that have applied, Syntr will be competing with nine other teams and allotted 60-seconds to pitch to a panel of esteemed judges. Additionally, they have been invited to pitch at the LA BioMed Innovation Showcase on March 9th, an event gathering startups from prestigious research institutions throughout California. Organizations participating include LA BioMed, Biocom, California Life Sciences Institute, CalState LA, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Lab Launch, Larta Institute, Pasadena Bioscience Collaborative, UC Irvine, UCLA, UC Riverside, UCSD, USC, and more.
Syntr has also made progress on their National Science Foundation I-Corps Program application, recently completing their first steps towards acceptance into an upcoming cohort. The I-Corps™ program was created by the NSF in 2011 to help move academic research it has funded to market. Through a dynamic collaboration with VentureWell, the NSF offers select participants from US academic laboratories the opportunity to participate in a special, accelerated version of Stanford University’s Lean LaunchPad course.
On the UCI campus, Syntr has progressed to the next stage of Tech Surge, a parallel track of the New Venture Competition by the Beall Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Paul Merage School of Business and UCI Applied Innovation. Additionally, Syntr has advanced in both the Beall Student Design Competition at the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Butterworth Product Development Competition at the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences.
“We are excited to enter these competitions, and the team is dedicated to spreading the word of what we are doing. Syntr’s goal is to provide an affordable point-of-care therapeutic for diabetic foot ulcer patients, and through these competitions, we aim to acquire the necessary funding to get us closer to that goal,” said Ahmed Zobi, CEO of Syntr.
